Today, I feel like Che, the narrator of the musical Evita when he describes the end and the live of Eva Perón by singing, "Oh what a circus!" The most hopeful news of the day is that millions of people voted in Congo this Sunday hoping that by voting they would put an end to years of deadly violence. By apart from that, this week was so chaotic and so discouraging that I am looking forward to have Washington empty from all of its politicians who have become useless because they are focused on just one thing, the November elections. Blair came to town Friday and for the first time, I was unable to even listen to him because I kept thinking that there always comes a time when eloquence is no longer enough and when actions are what matters. I am wondering if we have political leaders who are going to be able to rise up to the challenges of our century to make our world less apocalyptic and more hopeful or if we are just going to have to find a way to awaken the dead to find politicians who have what it takes to save us from ourselves.
