As expected, the fact that a new terrorist plot was thwarted today has bloggers from the Right and the left arguing about the fight against terrorism and about whether the Bush administration is conducting it as effectively as possible. It is a conversation, which as constructive and as fascinating as watching a train wreck. I don't like the fact that the terrorism issue has become so politicized that the discussion is no longer a constructive one about security and about how to fight terrorism, but about whether some people do want to fight or would rather have America lose it. I don't think America will be able to defeat the people who want to destroy it if its house is divided to use an metaphor used by Abraham Lincoln. Unfortunately, I think the security issue has become less about protecting America than ostracizing some Americans by putting fingers at them and making them the enemy.
