Haaretz published an article last weekend on some French Jews who are tempted to vote for Jean-Marie Le Pen, the French far right candidate, which has argued that the Gas chambers were a small detail of the Second World War history and which believes that Iran is entitled to possess the Nuclear bomb. Daniel Ben-Simon, the author of the article argues that the cause of this vote is the increased anti-Semitic violence and the desire to restrain “Muslim immigration.” Sugary excerpt:
While the state has not admitted to the growth of extremist elements in the Muslim community, Le Pen more forcefully emphasizes his well-known opinions: Muslims, or most Muslims, should go back to their countries of origin. The enemy of my enemy has suddenly become a friend. A Jewish doctor in this picturesque town said a few days ago that many of his friends intended to vote for Le Pen. "Of course, because he is the best for the Jews of France," he said. A friend of his, an economics professor who took part in the conversation, conceded that although things had improved, most of the Jews of Aix-en-Provence would vote either for the right-wing candidate Nicolas Sarkozy or Le Pen. "I have a feeling that Le Pen will do very well in the coming elections," he said.
I don't believe that a sizeable minority of Jews will For Jean-Marie Le Pen for although he has soften his stand on Islam and Muslims immigration in order to attract the vote of French Muslims, but he hasn't never refuted his past views of the Shoah and his members are still notable for their anti-Semitism.
