As France is wondering whether it should be proud of the way it qualified for the World Cup (Soccer, football), it got me thinking whether the United States would be tormented by such a question and agonized over the fact that it got through a major competition because of a mistake by the referee to say things politely. I have no idea. I have the strong suspicions that Italy wouldn't give a damn, but I wonder about the good, old, and moral U.S. of A. Sarkozy was too happy to have avoid the risk that having a whole nation not distracted by football next year could have been for him, that he just rejoiced in the win while praising les Bleus's fighting spirit. Would Obama have done the same thing ?
