Problematic assertion from Bill Benzon:
Through assimilation of black expressive culture, music especially, white American culture has changed and grown.
I have no idea what Benzon means by assimilation or by culture and that makes his statement problematic. He assumes that what he means is obvious when it isn't especially since assimilation has a negative connotation and culture is a political instrument, but a meaningless and misleading concept.
In short, I find both appalling and distressing the idea that there are such things as a black and a white cultures.
